The song includes Jazz, Rap, Salsa, and Blues genres among others, as well as an ending triumphal march for the campaign, integrated in a smooth and well arranged composition. It metaphorically tells the story of a captain "brave and bold," who has been sailing in the storm struggling to set the right course in the middle of a "killer hurricane". "'I was motivated by the great effort made by President Obama to ease our situation and give our country a new steady future. He has been fighting off the storm created by the Bush administration and especially the resistance of some republican politicians during these 4 years in their attempt to block the new policies and make him fail. 'Sailing in the Storm' is dedicated to the tens of thousands of victims of this terrible storm both in the US and abroad," said Miguel Ernesto Arango. At age 16, he composed the music and wrote the lyrics, and this year at 17 he was able to put together a band he calls 'Epic Magnitude' to make the music video.
