China News - December 3, 2012: Chen Guangcheng Appeals to Xi Jinping

In today's NTD China News, the Chinese regime expresses concern over North Korea's plan to launch a rocket this month. Blind Chinese rights activist Chen Guangcheng delivers a message to Chinese leader Xi Jinping, urging him to bring about much needed reform. Three US medical doctors, including a champion of medical ethics, Dr. Arthur Caplan, have launched a petition on the website of the United States White House. They want 25000 people to sign up, and urge the Obama administration to condemn and investigate allegations of forced organ harvesting of prisoners of conscience in China. Hong Kong legislators have rallied behind local Falun Gong practitioners, who were harassed and threatened by a group with suspected ties to mainland authorities. China's defiant "nail house" in the middle of a road in Zhejiang province have been knocked to the ground. Its owner apparently agreed to move, after an international media storm highlighted the issue of forced evictions in China. AIDS sufferers from Henan province say their pleas for help are ignored, even as Chinese leaders tout their efforts to combat the disease on World AIDS Day on Saturday December 1st. Apple Inc. will officially sell its iPhone 5 in China on December 14. With Apple's waning smartphone market share, Chinese consumers are weighing in on whether they will get Apple's latest gadget.
