EPISODE SYNOPSIS: CBS news personality Alan Carter joins the set this week to discuss some of the distinctions that separate local news reporting from other journalism. Alan is an exhilarating commentator that can make any topic enthralling. We discuss the Wisconsin recall election, the hierarchy of color and coverage, social media's impact on reporting, and the relationship between Obama, Hollywood and the gay community. GUEST BIO: Veteran journalist and writer Alan Carter joined the CBS 2/KCAL 9 web team in October 2005. Prior to working for the duopoly, Alan was a staff writer and reporter/correspondent/columnist/critic for many magazines and newspapers including Entertainment Weekly, People, TV Guide, Soap Opera Digest (where he was also Los Angeles bureau chief) and the New York Daily News. Alan was also one of the first on-air reporters hired for the syndicated show "Extra." Alan also has extensive freelance magazine and on line credits including CBS' WATCH!, TV Guide, EW.com, Trivialpursuit.com, Essence, Vibe, USA Weekend, Television Week, Emmy, Redbook and the Philadelphia Enquirer, to name just a few. Alan has also been a TV writer with credits on "The Soap Opera Awards" (five times for NBC and dick clark productions), a variety of clip shows for Soap Net and Fox, and "Guiding Light Turns 60!" for CBS Radio.
